Degree of Agreement

Have some statements on the document camera that challenge participants' philosophies or feelings about the topic. Have them move to four corners based on their level of agreement: Strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree. Have them discuss with others why they chose the Degree of Agreement. Then ask them to share with the whole group.

Picture Metaphors

Provide participants pictures of common objects. Ask them to write a metaphor related to your topic. "This topic is like [blank] because [blank]." Example: "Math tasks are like shovels because students have to dig deep to demonstrate their understanding."

Participant-Centered Activities

Me in Three

Partner Interviews

Hand out 3x5 index cards to participants. Have them partner up and interview each other: Name, teaching assignment, years experience, and one interesting fact about them. Then partners introduce each other. You can collect the index cards and use them as equity cards to model calling on non-volunteers.

Participant Bingo

You can edit this to create whatever statements you want.

Personal Museum

Give participants a 5x8 index card and markers. Ask them to create a display that of 3 items that best describes them: for what they are most proud or for what they most want to be known. You could also do this in conjunction with creating a name tent. 8x10 card stock would work great also.
